Jason Orellana serves as the Community Risk Reduction Specialist and Assistant Public Information Officer for the Cape Coral Fire Department in Cape Coral, Florida. He is responsible for developing and leading community risk reduction initiatives that enhance public safety through education, prevention, emergency preparedness, and strategic partnerships.

Since joining the department, Jason has been responsible for the development of numerous fire and life safety programs that have expanded the department's community outreach efforts. His work includes creating comprehensive initiatives focused on falls prevention, drowning prevention, child passenger safety, smoke alarm installation, youth firesetting intervention, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Stop the Bleed®, and other life safety education programs. Recognizing the growing need to reach diverse audiences, Jason has also developed and implemented many of these programs in both English and Spanish, helping eliminate language barriers and ensuring life-saving education is accessible to a broader segment of the community. As a bilingual English-Spanish speaker, he frequently provides education, public information, and emergency communications in both languages.

Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts in Integrated Studies from Florida Gulf Coast University. He is a Certified Advanced Public Information Officer through the National Disaster and Emergency Management University, overseen by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and is also a Credentialed Public Information Officer through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). His additional professional certifications include Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) and Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist (YFIS).

Beyond his community risk reduction responsibilities, Jason serves as an Operations Section Chief within the City of Cape Coral's Emergency Operations Center, where he helps coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts during disasters and major incidents. Throughout his career, he has served during numerous large-scale emergencies, including Hurricane Ian, Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, multiple large brush fires, an aircraft crash, and other significant incidents requiring coordinated emergency management and public information operations.

Jason is an active leader in injury prevention, community resilience, and the advancement of community risk reduction. He serves on the Safe Kids Southwest Florida Coalition, the Lee County Injury Prevention Coalition, the Advisory Council for The Dubin Center, the Cape Coral Fire Department Community Foundation, the National Fire Protection Association Community Risk Reduction Working Group, and several other local and professional organizations dedicated to improving public safety.

In addition to his operational and community leadership roles, Jason is a sought-after speaker who has presented at regional and national conferences on topics including community risk reduction, public education, emergency communications, and injury prevention. His presentations have been featured at the National Fire Protection Association Conference & Expo, the Community Risk Reduction Leadership Conference, the Florida Association of Code Enforcement Annual Conference, the Florida Community Emergency Response Team Conference, and other professional conferences throughout the country.

Passionate about making safety education engaging, innovative, and accessible, Jason regularly collaborates with local, state, national, and international partners to advance the field of community risk reduction. Whether developing new prevention initiatives, leading public information during emergencies, or educating residents through interactive programs, his mission remains the same: helping create safer, more resilient communities through proactive education and collaboration.

Outside of the fire service, Jason is a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder who enjoys exploring the parks, discovering unique coffee shops wherever he travels, and spending quality time with friends and family.
